28 weeks

#1 I am officially SEVEN months pregnant.  Seven months!  The third trimester!  There is light at the end of the tunnel!

#2 I am hormonal and I cry several times a day and my body hurts and is TIRED TIRED TIRED of this shit already!

#3 I hate everyone out there who is all, “Ohhh pregnancy is so beautiful I feel so great I work out every day and I don’t feel pregnant whatsoever and bleh bleh bleh bleh.”  Seriously.  I hate you.  We’re not friends anymore.

#4 I took my glucose tolerance test and guess what?  I’m a freak of nature.  No, I don’t have gestational diabetes.  Instead, I have hypoglycemia.  I fast for 10 hours and drink an insane amount of sugar and instead of my blood sugar going up, it goes down.  Way down.  Still trying to figure out exactly what I need to do to remedy the situation.

#5 My husband has decided to attend an optional training event for work in Las Vegas from November 6th-9th.  Not because it would benefit him in any way, of course.  Just because he wants to go to Vegas.  I hope the baby comes that weekend just to spite him.

27 weeks+

I was at the midwife’s this week for my monthly appointment.  From here on out, I’ll be seeing her every TWO weeks, which I consider a huge waste of time, but it must be done to cover her ass AND mine, really.  I had my glucose intolerance test to screen for gestational diabetes.  She had me drink a cup of herbal tea with 3 1/3 tablespoons of honey, which was a lot tastier than that Glucola shit that obstetricians make you guzzle.  Also, no artificial colors and flavors.  I still haven’t heard whether I’ve passed.  I mean, I expect that I will.  I always have before.  I didn’t even have a speck of sugar in my urine.  I wonder what my midwife would say if I told her that 3 tablespoons of honey is NOTHING when I seriously crammed half a package of Oreos down my throat a few nights back.  Oh YEAH, speaking of that–according to her records, I’ve gained 47lbs so far.  What?! 47 pounds???  Okay, so it’s not so outrageous.  I’m blowing up to massive proportions (see the last photo.)  I’m having a really hard time getting around now.  I feel morbidly obese.  I have trouble getting into the CAR.  *Chuckling*

Anyway.  My blood pressure is still fantastic, no swelling whatsoever, baby is insanely active, and I’m measuring 2 weeks ahead, which is a new one for me, but not worrisome.  He’s also still in a really strange oblique position, but so was Rylan for awhile, so I’m trying not to stress.

Nothing worries me, nothing scares me about pregnancy, labor or birth.  The only thing I’m freaking out about is breastfeeding.  Can it please just be easy for me this time around???

25 weeks

Let me see if I can rustle up something to say here.

15 weeks left?  Wow, that’s shocking.  It doesn’t seem like long enough.  Seriously!  Something about this pregnancy has it moving wayyyyy too fast and I’m just not as prepared as I was with the other kids.  I know I’ve said this before, but this truly has to be our last baby, and after learning through trial and error I have really tried to keep preparation and buying to a bare minimum.  When I learned that I was pregnant, I made a list of necessities.  (What *I* believe are necessities.)  It looks something like this:

-Newborn clothes.  Not too many and nothing fancy.  We do gowns and sleepers and side snapping undershirts and generally try to stay away from onesies during the newborn days.  (How many of you have had to pull a onesie over the head of a baby who has just had an explosive breastmilk poopie up their back? YUCK.)

-48 infant prefolds

-48 premium prefolds

-6 newborn diaper covers

-6 small diaper covers

-2 Snappi diaper fasteners

-large & small wetbag (Wetbags are waterproof bags that line your diaper pail or are small enough to bring on outings so you don’t have to use plastic grocery bags for dirty diapers.)

-changing pad and cover (the one we are currently using has truly been shredded from nearly three years of daily abuse.  And yes, I use the changing table exclusively and still do with Rylan.)

-diaper sprayer (This is an attachment that hooks up to your toilet so that you can easily rinse off poopie diapers. (I did not have this with Rylan and pretty much regretted it.  My hope this time around is that I will be able to rinse and promptly wash all poopie diapers in order to prevent stains and get a good resale price on our used diapers to fund the next size up.)

-Nursing bras (2)

-Cloth nursing pads

-Crib mattress (Won’t be immediately needed, but the mattress we have is absolutely disgusting.  And since Rylan slept in his crib for two whole years, I’d like to get a fairly decent mattress.)

-Moby wrap (I saw someone use this with a brand new baby and I thought it looked so much handier than everything else out there.  I have a Maya ring sling, but it’s not necessarily easy when you need two hands free.)

Somewhere along the way, I acquired a bouncy seat (free), a swing (garage sale find for $15), and a Boppy pillow ($6 garage sale find.)

I already owned a highchair, a “travel system” (infant carseat/stroller combo), a convertible carseat and a portable crib.  All of which were SERIOUSLY loved, but are still completely workable.  I actually purchased the porta-crib at a garage sale over three years ago for $15.  Man, has it been worth it’s weight in gold.  It’s got the newborn bassinet attachment, which is how I PLAN on having the newborn sleep as close to me as possible.  It also has the diaper changing attachment, for late night diaper changing without having to leave the room.  The regular crib portion is where Rylan slept for 2 1/2 years on visits to Grandma’s house, camping, etc.  Priceless, those porta-cribs are!

Anyway, I’ve made a serious dent in my list.  I’m pretty sure I have all the clothes I need (all are second-hand.)  The diaper covers have all been purchased (secondhand.)  Hopefully someone will step up and buy me the crib mattress and I may be able to talk my mom into a trip to Nordstrom after the birth for the nursing bras I love.  But let me tell you…the fourth baby comes and you REALLY don’t hear many offers on the gift-giving front.  The poor 4th kid.  It probably happens with the third as well, although it didn’t happen that way with me since I had a six year age gap between Kid #2 and #3.  I really can’t complain though.  I would probably blow a gasket if someone insisted on throwing me a baby shower.  Big piles of extravagant gifts look fun, but when you only end up using 25% of the stuff and the rest goes to waste or just clutters up your house, it’s a burden more than it is a blessing.  I’m telling you, if anyone asks me what I need for the baby, I’m going to say “money.”  LOL.  Let’s cut the crap, people.  I just need money, so I can buy some poop catchers.  Please don’t buy me a velour baby blanket that will only get puked on.

Six whole months

Yippeeeee, I’m 6 months pregnant!  This is exciting, considering 24 weeks is now considered viable.

I went to the midwife this week.  Nothing too exciting.  My blood pressure is still fantastic, my uterus measures right on, my baby’s heartrate continues to stay in the 150’s, and according to her scale I gained another 7lbs this month.  Hey, I tried.  A little.  The whole pubic bone pain remains at a mangeable level, and pretty much only hurts when I’m sleeping and need to change positions, or when I’m getting UP from sleeping.  I’m starting to walk like a little old lady.  Yesterday, I had TWO people ask me when I was due.  This is the first time it’s happened, which must mean that I’m not just looking like a fat lady anymore.  I really look pregnant!  Too bad both of them stared at me in shock when I said “November.”  Hey, it’s August already!  It’s getting closer! And no, I’m not having twins! I’m just having a big bouncing baby boy!!!

Oh another thing, did I tell you that Rylan weaned?  32 months, baby!  He weaned right around the time that my milk turned to colostrum, which I figure is the real reason he bored himself of nursing.  But his excuse? “They’re too big.”  He’s right.  They ARE too big.  They are ginormous.  Poor newborn baby is going to be dwarfed in comparison to my enormous bosom.

Ummm….I’ve recently developed a sunflower seed addiction.  Must be the sodium.  I’ve eaten three packages in three weeks.  I eat them until my cheeks and tongue go raw.  I just can’t get enough.

In other happy news, we’re still broke, but Brent managed to work enough overtime last week that we were able to pay all of our overdue bills.  Whee!  That’s always nice.  If we keep busting our ass and eating hot dogs and tater tots for a few more weeks, we might actually make a dent in that list of “extras” we desperately need.  And actually, someone recently offered me some Cub Scout uniforms, which is awesome, because those suckers are expensive.  I also stooped to new lows and accepted a used twin mattress on Freecycle for Rylan’s bed.  Luckily, it was an older couple who had been using the mattress in their guest room and it has always been covered.  It looks and smells brand new, thank God, but today it will sit outside after being sprayed down with Lysol so it can air out before I wrap it up and stick it in his room.  I’m also awaiting a package from my best friend, which hopefully will contain a few maternity clothing items to get me through another few weeks.  My options are disappearing with every day that my belly, ass and thighs grow to amazing new proportions.

Anyway, I’ve really got to go.  Grandma took Rylan and Tristan for FIVE WHOLE DAYS so that we can clean and organize our entire garage and I really should get started.  (Yes, I’m nesting.  The earlier the better.)
